Well I did not think that I would be writing this blog entry with the above title anytime soon but good fortune has fallen on to me. I got a call to come and pick up my new 7D today but I really didn't have the money as I am switching from my EX1 to this camera and I need to have the money from that camera to work with. However, the stipulation to get the 7D was that I had to be there within one hour to pick it up. Hmmmm, I need to come up with $2000. Well, I made some calls and bang I was picking the new 7D up and running home to play with the new toy.
Here are some pictures of the fleet of cameras starting with the incredible G9 that Canon has dumbed down but added a better lens to recently. Then of course the 7D and then the 5D Mark ll. The picture that I took is low quality because they came from my only other camera, my iPhone.
My indicial thought about the 7D are good. The camera holds better than the 5D Mll and the controls are upgraded to be more user friendly toward the video crowd. The on/off switch is on the top, which is a nice change if you mount you camera to anything for video equipment. It has a dedicated record button and a video switch, which turns Live View on, and it stays on. My initial thoughts about the video quality are that it does not have the low light capability that the 5D Mll has with its full frame but it works as well as anything out there in it's class or better. You don't need a $2500 lens adapter anymore to create a film look.
I have a 10-hour film race this weekend that I will use the two cameras side by side in and then I will post the video to vimeo so that we can see the differences.
