Setting Up Custom User Settings On The 5D and 7D for Video

This blog is meant to show how to memorize your custom user setting for your 5D and 7D cameras. I have been repeatedly asked to show people how to save the setting so that the camera does not switch back to the usual setting or arbitrary setting that the camera is in while in manual mode. Saving the custom settings under the user setting (C1-3) allows you to set one for indoor, another for outdoor and another for photo mode or however you like you camera setup. Another way to set it up is an Aperture Priority or Speed Priority and Manual Mode, either way you slice it this is how you do it.

First, turn the user knob to the selected mode (M-Av-Tv) that you want to save for your first user setting (C-1).

Second, set the camera to the desired ISO, Aperture and Shutter Speed for the specific lighting situation.

Third, go into the menu and find the Camera User Settings tab and enter the sub menu.

From here you will be asked if you’d like to register. Yes I do.

Then you can choose which profile you would like to place your custom settings under. In this case we will set ours under C-1.

Exit the menu and then switch the camera to user setting one. Your custom manual settings should be the same. Now turn it to another setting and back to check and see if they have been save properly. Repeat as desired to add more custom settings to C-2 and C-3.
